Painted turtle (Chrysemys picta):
Painted turtles are sometimes known as sun turtles. From above they are dark brown colored, from below they are orange, red and yellow. The top side is well camouflaged agains the dark brown bottom of a pond or swampy area. Painteds are omnivores bordering on carnivores. They like insects, snails, small fish that all live in the water. This species often stis on logs in the sun to get warm. They pop off into the water long before you can get to them.
