This is a Red Fox kit, who made his way into New England Wildlife Center last weekend. The fox was found wandering around a Whitman parking lot. He was attempting to gain access to local businesses, and was approaching people in what looked to be an attempt to find support. This is a potentially dangerous situation for the Fox and humans involved. Animal Control quickly responded to the call, and the cub was captured and brought into our Hospital. He was evaluated by our veterinarians, who found him to be slightly dehydrated and malnourished. After being examined he was placed into our Holding ward, where he is currently staying. He has been eating well and receiving fluids. We plan to run a few more tests before giving him the all clear.

The Red fox is around 4 weeks old, and is just starting to be self sufficient. This is normally the time he starts to be able to eat solid food, and over the next two months will continue to develop the skills necessary to be independent in the wild. We have high hopes that he will grow up well and be released without complication.
