Wood turtle (Glyptemys insculptaI):
Uniquely found in North America, the wood turtle is small and has a pyramid-style design on its shell. They have grayish brown colored skin, and the bottom of their shell is a mix of yellow and black. They are quick for a turtle, and can move up to 0.25 miles per hour. They are also surprisingly good at directions, and are known to be able to easily identify the ways in which they must travel to get to water or to their mating grounds. You will only find these turtles near the water, generally in shallow streams and rivers. They are omnivores and will eat whatever they find on land or in the water. As most turtles do, the wood turtle has the amazing ability to survive a very long time, and can live to be a respectable 40 years old in the wild.
