This little guy looks hungry! This is a young Grey Fox about to be fed a nice hearty meal. He was admitted into New England Wildlife Center’s hospital on Monday after being found near his dead mother, who was hit by a car. It took him a few days to get to us, since the person who found him tried to care for and raise him themselves. This is a dangerous prospect, and no person should ever attempt to care for wildlife unless licensed by the state to do so. There are many health and safety risks to all involved. Local animal control officers took care of the situation, and brought the Grey Fox into our building and admitted him into our hospital. Our veterinary team’s exam determined he was in relatively good health, with no obvious signs of injury or disease. He is still much too young to be on his own, and will be on nutritional support as he continues to grow. He is currently in our isolation ward, an area out of the way of the public. We are currently checking him for ticks, which have the potential to transmit disease. Overall we expect him to make a full recovery, and his prognosis is good.
