This is an European Starling orphan happy after a messy feeding. He was admitted into New England Wildlife Center’s hospital last week after being found alone in the middle of a parking lot, still much too young to be on his own. We assume he fell out before he was ready to leave. Mom was not around, and the baby came into our Hospital dehydrated and hungry. Our veterinary team gave him an exam, which found blunt force trauma due to the fall. He is being treated as a fragile orphan and will be in the Center’s Hospital until he is around 3 months old. By that time he will have begun to develop the ability to eat on his own, his feet will be strong enough to perch on branches and his primary feathers will have almost fully developed to allow for flight. We are currently feeding him a matrix of nutrient, and is being syringe fed every 2 hours. The trauma he sustained is healing well, and his prognosis is good. We expect him to make a full recovery.
