I have some exciting news I would like to share with you. Tonight a national PBS broadcast will air at 9:00 on WGBH2 featuring the Center’s collaborative with the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office to provide animal care job training for nonviolent offenders. The Center and NSO were selected for innovation in the premier of PBS’s national “One Day in an American City” documentary.
The documentary series focuses on capturing the lives and stories of people in eleven American cities on a single day across the country. We are honored to report that the Center’s program was selected from hundreds of entries as a demonstration of innovation in solving a national problem. Our portion of the three-part program highlights the obstacles faced by inmates as they reintegrate and seek employment after incarceration.
The Center works directly with the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office to remove some of the social and educational boundaries that often arise upon release. We train non-violent offenders in animal care and husbandry. It is our hope that tonight’s program will shine a light on this pressing issue, and help garner support for those trying to find jobs and build careers after prison. Thank you so much for your support! We hope hope you will tune in tonight at 9 on WGBH2.
