Pictured here is an Great Horned Owl Nestling, who was admitted into New England Wildlife Center’s hospital last weekend. He was found out of place in the middle of a golf course, stressed and confused. He was transported to our hospital, and was examined by our veterinary team, who found the nestling to be a good weight and generally in good health. He was given fluids and nutritional support while in our care. Since Great-Horned Owl moms do such a better job than we can, our goal was to find a foster mother for the nestling. Great Horned Owls are one of the few species who readily foster orphaned babies, all we had to do was find a vacant nest. Over the weekend we were able to release the nestling back out into the wild, placing him into a foster parent’s nest. This nestling is only a few weeks old, and will not be ready to be on his own for around another month. We wish him the best of luck growing up!
